VMAP Tester

Test VMAP responses and inspect how video ad breaks are configured. This can be useful when working with pre roll, mid roll and post roll advertising.

What is VMAP?

Video Multiple Ad Playlist (VMAP) is an IAB standard that allows content owners to define where ad breaks should be placed within their video content. While VAST describes the ad itself, VMAP describes the playlist of ads.

Why publishers use it

Publishers use VMAP to maintain control over the viewer experience. By defining the ad break structure centrally, they can ensure a consistent number of ads are shown across different devices and video players, without relying on the video player to make those decisions.

Pre roll, mid roll, and post roll

A VMAP response explicitly defines the timing of the ad breaks. You can configure ads to play before the content starts (pre roll), at specific timecodes during the content (mid roll), or after the content finishes (post roll).

How to inspect VMAP responses

Paste your VMAP URL or the XML directly into the tool. Our tester will parse the playlist and load the video ad breaks. You can verify that the breaks are scheduled at the correct times and that each break successfully loads a video ad.

How VMAP relates to VAST

VMAP acts as an envelope. Inside each scheduled ad break defined by the VMAP, there is a reference to a VAST tag. To test a single video ad independently of the playlist, use our VAST tester.
